The MAEC museum is located in the historic centre and is full of finds from the area that have helped to make Cortona famous, it is certainly worth a visit. Outside the walls of the city is the historical Franciscan Hermitage, Le Celle, it is probably one of the best places in the region to appreciate the devout and meditative spirit of Saint Francis of Assisi. It is about a 25 min walk from the city centre or 5 mins by car. The Sanctuary of Santa Margherita (Patron saint of Cortona) and the Fortezza dal Girifalco are situated at the highest point of the city.Cortona is ideally situated and within easy reach of most of the important sites of interest in Tuscany.

Pick up from your residence and go directly to the city centre for a walking tour and visit tothe museum when available. It is a 15 minute walk from the centre to the church and Fortressa above Cortona. Then lunch in one of the typical trattorias in the centre. Pre booking is recommended. In the afternoon you have some free time and then a visit to Le Celle, a very special spiritual experience. You can on request visit two other important Etruscan towns a short distance from Cortona Castiglion Fiorentino or Lucignano.
